Problem Statement

Food waste within Singapore is rising, amounting to 817,000 tonnes in 2021, a 23% increase in a year alone. As Singapore's sole landfill catapults towards maximum capacity, everyone plays a part in impeding this exponential growth and threat to our nation's future. How can we redirect our resources and our food waste back into industries, and how can we achieve this drastic decrease in Singapore's food waste?

Project Description

At Romainder, we aim to construct a unique, customized system for companies that aid them in food valorization and upcycling food waste back into high-end products which consumers and other businesses can use, thereby generating revenue from what would otherwise be a cost detriment for the company. Focusing on the collection of food waste with long-term partnerships with farms and wholesalers to be redistributed and reused as materials to create another product, we look towards reducing the incessant food wastage created in Singapore. We also plan to roll out multiple phases of our project both nationally and ultimately globally, while also campaigning to the youth and directing our efforts to revolutionize the notion of ugly food and food waste to those from all socio-economic backgrounds, to create a better and hopeful planet for all to live in.
