Problem Statement

Given the less structured nature of the creative industry, young creatives may not have sufficient information on how to navigate their creative careers.

How might we enable young creatives to make better-informed choices in their education and careers?

Project Description

edValue aims to provide mentoring programmes that enable young creatives aged 20-25 to make better-informed choices in their education and careers.

The team will develop a mentoring programme that will be made up of a 3-month masterclass curriculum which will allow participants to learn about the creative industry and develop STEAM skills (i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math). This will be followed by a 12-month applied-learning practicum that will consist of real world traineeship opportunities in creative industries.

Definitely the ones that involves numerous Art forms. I often see science projects or projects for a cause but passion projects related to arts are definitely quite difficult to be seen

I would love to get rid of lack of resources that haunts me every time I want to start a passion project. Even if I want to start a passion project, I have no clue as to who or what to approach. And where to start. I would really like to eradicate those challenges.

Great looking at educational platform to learn and follow up means to apply skills. Some areas to look at could include getting buy-in of IHLs to consider these projects (and completion of learning modules and practicals) as part of grades. Doing things out of school schedule may not be accessible for all (some students may need streams of income and may have to forgo such opportunities, including internships that tend to pay less).

The plan is very detailed! You may wish to study and replicate how traineeships are done, and curate learning points. For the 3-month period, would it be helpful to design it more similar to a research-based programme rather than a taught programme. This may better motivate students to learn if they are given a piece of work e.g. to automate a process; rather than treated as a homework.

Team may wish to consider how the masterclasses curated by well-known industry practitioners differ from existing programs offered by local arts groups.

IHL students are more likely to take up internships or part-time jobs during the period you are offering the masterclass. How do you make the students want to choose your masterclass during vacation?

Probably more career opportunities to help fresh grads or working adults to have a sense of the industry and if they would like to continue venture into the same path in future.

Not only is this a very Creative initiative, I also think that it’s very important for the youths of today. We often have so much courage to take initiatives and pursue something we are interested in. But the lack of resources or the lack of information on this puts a huge strain on this. So you guys could also include like guides or something which gives youths detailed information on how to go about pursuing their passion project. However, I am concerned that too much guidance might also jeopardize their learning process. So you guys could think about guiding them and giving them enough resources at the same time not jeopardizing the process that they go through as well.

This is a very well thought-out plan. You can improve by further fleshing out how to keep the creatives incentivised throughout the 3+12 months programme as the time frame is actually pretty long. Churn rate might be high and this could pose a problem for the success of what you’re trying to solve.

I appreciate that the team is trying to achieve the dual aims of Learning and Development of the creatives/aspiring creatives while also bringing various stakeholders to co-create greater value! I do not understand the project clearly enough to give specific suggestions. maybe the team could explore what are the intended outcomes for the experiential programme as well as the year-long programme and conduct research and interviews to understand the needs and aspirations of creatives and align ground needs with the programme outcomes and activities. This is so that the programme truly benefits the target group and can garner enough interest and signups!!

I believe that this is a very good project for all aspiring creatives out there who are currently struggling in the midst of the pandemic. Also, it will be good to have a segment where artists can learn how to make their own NFTs to sell and have more exposure to their art on your platform. I believe that it will be good to partner with relevant government bodies as well to find out about the process for grant applications and you can list them on your website so that users are better positioned to know how to apply for grants to kickstart their projects more effectively and efficiently.
