In response to "Do you believe that social media is doing more good or bad for your mental health and well-being?"
I would say both good and bad. Good because it keeps me apprised of updates/important news when friends share them (eg resharing of today online articles on their IG story), or when I can share my frustrations/good news/education content with friends or vice versa (eg need a listening ear when I encounter a bad boss, good news on a new job role, useful information about autism) as these help me get things off my chest and at the same time, make me feel like I’m not living a hermit’s life without awareness of my friends’ circumstances, world news and that they know about my situation, where applicable. It can be negative for my mental health and well-being when I see posts from influencers who show off what they can afford and have, even if they purchase items with their own money, because then it creates a feeling on inadequacy and a need to keep up with the jones. When one cant get what they have, it may cause the person to feel insecure, angry with their own earning power…etc. So all in all, social media can be both good and bad but education can help to mitigate the negative impacts through creation of awareness and constant reminders not to take what one sees on social media at face value because often, life isnt like what it seems on the gram.
