Problem Statement

There are 5 million youths and young professionals in Asia who need customised career development training but most career offices are under-resourced to provide such services to students.

How can we help the career offices to meet students’ demands for career development training?

Project Description

Talentlink aims to provide fresh graduates and students with relevant career development training and simplify the hiring process.

The team will match students with relevant career resources and mentors based on the proprietary psychometric test embedded in their digital platform. This helps students better understand their career readiness and gain an understanding of the industries they want to work in. This platform will also enable corporations to provide virtual project/traineeship opportunities to students, where they can learn on-the-job skills that will allow them to grow into better job candidates.

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

What is the specific value add of the comprehensive psychometric test and the curated career readiness training plan? Does the team envision the career mentors providing assurance that the mentees will land a job? How is the team\'s proposal different from existing mentorship schemes? Also, more fundamentally, if the intent is to help or enhance university career offices and the people who work within them, the current solution which operates largely outside the ambit of these offices doesn\'t address the challenge identified.

The idea is good and I think there\'s another thing that you can add for this platform. First, you can make a discussion sessions from fresh graduate employees to give their struggles to find their first job and how to tackle it. Second, you can help them to compare job scams in Singapore and how to deal with that. Third, you can develop a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) about getting a job we want with it\'s plan B until Z for the worst case. No matter what happens, we have to pay our own bills right?

From the information you guys have given , it definitely seems very solid and clear. The 3 main pillars really addresses the issue thats being tackled. I would really love to see this in the long run! And mentorship for people who are taking completely different path than others ( GAP year and etc.). It would be also great if you guys have mentors who have take down a similar path and who can reassure us.

Interesting idea, perhaps the tough part is how the university will see value in this and will it add more work to them.

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

psychometric tests are helpful for students to understand ourselves and how to select jobs that suit our personality and character. However I think most people don\'t know what they want to do even at the graduation stage, or have grandiose ideas of what a graduate\'s role is. The need to \"fast track\" this through mentorship is not really helpful for the students\' expectations at workplace... for example, my team once had an intern not liking to do the grind work, but wanting only to do the exciting things like deals. The idea that a mentor will solve their job search problems is a bit one-sided ... maybe the training plan should also help students reframe to think of how they can contribute, what can they do to best help the organization and not \"what\'s in it for me, only\".

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

It can start from secondary school as even choosing courses to enter can also be difficult for students as they have not been exposed to the interest (field of study) they are keen on and might not be sure what field of study is relevant to their interest. E.g. It is very difficult for students to know they like Accounting, Programming, Engineering when they did not take the subject in school and it is like a new field to them. I also think the allocation of E.g. engineering slots in school does not match the ability of the students. Some students might be bad in maths but they got the slot as the other fields are filled. I like the idea of Training Plan and mentors for students as I think it will be helpful for them to know what they will be doing and how the mentor experience can help them in their career early. Can share more on Training Plan and what are the programmes available.

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

Career Initiative Programs should have been executed before Pre-University so that students can better select courses which suits them based on their career path. It\'s more ideal that way since there have been statistics that graduates (or even PMEs) have made career switches and mostly due to the difference in individual skills and career requirements.

This is a good idea to get students to initiate their career planning. Psychometric test - will be ideal if it is certified or supported by a recognized institute so users can support their job applications with this Career mentorship - there’s a lot of opportunities for a win-win situation - mentees can land their preferred roles and mentors can find mentees who suit a vacant role in their company. Suggest to have an in-app community for open sharing to expose both parties to a wider range of topics and experiences.

1) Psychometric test can help individual understand more about themselves. How would psychometric test give 100% accuracy when human learn and changes? 2) Career coaches advice in university is outdated. Their techniques are not up to industry standard. How do you ensure career coaches are upskilled?

I think talentlink can improve by partnering with a wider range of industry partners as well as having more job opportunities. One way to improve the platform offerings will be to have career coaches as well to assist in students\' interview preparations, especially during the pandemic, in the form of virtual interviews and how to excel in them.

Provide more details about how the psychometric test will be conducted? This is an interesting path to follow as its not quite used by recruitment firms professionally. Yet, it can be really helpful for job-seekers too. Why limit usage to students? Could open up to job-seekers across ages.
