Problem Statement

Donation warehouses are often seen as ‘dumping grounds’ for unwanted items, making it time-consuming for charities to sort through the quality of items donated.

How can we help shift this mindset and educate the public on donation ettiquete?

Project Description

Reloved aims to refine the process of charity donations by creating a closed-loop system between donors and charity organisations.

The team aims to develop a one-stop platform where donors can conveniently put up items for donation online and case workers will determine if the item is good enough before the item is accepted. The platform will also allow those in need to put up item requests so their needs can be directly met. Educational content and webinars will also be available to inform the public on appropriate donation avenues and etiquette.

Too many charities, not sure which one to donate to. Would be useful if there is a one-stop demand aggregator that consumers can donate to, and the platform “allocates” the donated item to charities in need

Can there be more organisations that accepts donations of used items and also a avenue for donators to list their items for people to take ?

img placeholder

i think can probably start from what items is suitable for donation first, based on your problem identified. maybe can build a platform to help real time identify on whether the item is suitable for donation or not

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

Conceptually it seems similar to carousell, except with the focus on turning the proceeds to charity organisation\'s instead of the individual. Improvement may need to be done on the validation of the individuals donations, to ensure that the proceeds would actually go to the organization that is stated. On the part of the buyers, filters should also be added so that they will be able to support the sellers that contribute to the cause that they believe in. Assuming that finding donation locations is also part of the service of this app, perhaps this filter could be highly utilized. For convenience, coordination of delivery and drop offs of the items could be a part of further development as well.

The concept of the platform makes sense. The problems of these platforms tend to be the hassle of 1) photo-taking and Description 2) Seller Expected price vs buyer desired price 3) collection or delivery

May take some time to kick off this idea especially when there is Carousell. Prices have to be competitive.

Maybe create a platform for people to just donate their items and then platform can give these items to whichever charity that needs them the most?

This is a good initiative! Having a one-stop platform could (1) encourage more donation and (2) enable more efficient allocation of donated items (e.g. if charity X does not need clothing, can be transferred to Y). In terms of implementation, the team may consider whether useful to (1) aggregate a wish list across all charities to prioritise specific categories of items (e.g. food or clothing, or furniture); (2) organise warehouse sales or through Instagram/tiktok for non-prioritised / unwanted items

I think dropping off at the charity directly would be more incentivising than drives. But I would really love to have more information on charities like that around me. Coz I realised that a lot of us don’t know where such places exist. Talking to a friend recently made me realise that we didn’t even know orphanages existed in Singapore. So in such a plight , you guys have to spread awareness about this. Also you can of with school as they tend to have more clothes than any other age

Maybe have a list guidelines of what condition should the item be, so that it is ideal to be reuse by someone else?

Donation had always been around in Sg for many years. So what exactly is this close loop system Is it to get people to purchase donated items easier or to get people to donate better. Cause it seems its more of 2 seperate issues rather than linking them together.

img placeholder

Guest

17/01/22 02:19:29

Perhaps it can be a different model of purchase for consumers, for example an entry fee to the marketplace, and each person can select 5 items at each time.

Noble idea, though I wonder if it\'ll just function like Carousell. Charity organisations may not immediately see the benefit of having items donated to them as the proceeds can only go to them after the items are sold.

I love the way this is like OLIO+. It\'s still P2P (so no load on the charities in terms of space), yet it generates a little bit of income for the charities. To really improve from OLIO is to have categories of the items donated so people can filter by that in addition to location. Great idea, can\'t wait to support it!

Since people tend to donate in mass, maybe arrange pick up points at neighbourhoods so people can go down to pass their donations. Making this accessible will allow them to want to do this more. Have an app which will notify them when the van etc is coming. Maybe even display some of the used items they can buy, so that they can collect some monetary donations while on the go. - Singi Das, singi.das.7@gmail.com

Routine collection van or lorry that can help to collect bulky and heavy items. People do buy new furniture or electrical appliances and have intention to donate their still usable second hand ones, but it is not easy due to the size and not all singaporean has transportation or means to deliver the donation.

How do you differ from carousell? As it also seemed like a closed-loop system. Businesses may find a way to sell their items there too.

I really like the idea! Perhaps you can consider working with platforms like carousell so that carousellers that aren\'t able to sell stuff there can immediately choose to move them to your platform :)
