As meat consumption rates remain high, carbon emitted as a result of meat production continues to be a major contributor to global warming.
How might we encourage Singaporeans to reduce meat consumption?
Project Minimi(se) aims to encourage Singaporeans to modify their dietary habits to become more environmentally friendly by reducing their meat consumption.
The team will develop a website and telegram bot that will help users to track their habitual change. The website will also provide educational information to debunk myths and inform users on the positive impact of meat-free diets. To help users on their meat reduction journey, they will also upload tips on self-discipline, vegetarian meal recipes and restaurant recommendations.

As i lead a pretty active lifestyle, i look to meat for an easy source of protein for recovery. I don\'t know enough OR have enough time/resource to understand what kind of meatless diet suits me to give me the complex protein that usually come from meat.

I do not have trouble minimising meat consumption. I think that there are many inexpensive alternatives on the market - tofu being one affordable source of protein! I also think that many restaurants are gravitating towards offering vegan/vegetarian options now which is good to see. One thing that may put people off though is the price, as alternative meat sources like Quorn are pricier than buying meat. Also, alternative meat is tends to feature more heavily in restaurants than hawker centres etc - which may lead to some people finding it difficult to reduce their consumption.

In response to "How Can We Improve?"
Can share on new meal items for consumers to explore so they can have a varied diet other than meat.
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
the telegram channel is a good start as it provides personalise reminders/motivation to people trying to cut down their meat consumption! Some thoughts from somebody trying to cut down on meat consumption but facing troubles: 1. Perhaps the team can design social media content for users to share on their social media platforms when they hit a certain milestone e.g. Three Days of Meatless, One Week of Meatless etc. Public accountability is a proven way to motivate users to stick to their goals. 2. Would also be useful to provide affordable recipes with the necessary nutrients to substitute meat, and maybe work with vegan protein powder companies to offer discount codes to users who want to move away from meat. 3. i also think instead of starting the goal at one meatless day, maybe can try setting the goal at one meatless meal first. So it\'s not that big of a lifestyle jump to suddenly not have meat for one whole day, which may feel daunting and impossible for some. 4. The team can even approach plant-based meat companies e.g. Quorn or ImpossibleMeat to offer attractive prices / discount code for users who has been consistent in their goals (i.e. meatless four days a week for three months etc).

I think more could be done on top of having an online community for this cause.

Interesting project - would it be useful to raise awareness on how exactly meat consumption affect carbon foot print? Is it realistic to assume that (1) if mankind stop consuming meat, then global carbon emissions would immediately reduce by e.g. 15%; (2) what are the alternatives to meat e.g. plant based diet? Would a full plant based diet still incur similar carbon footprint in terms of production (e.g. beyond meat) and supply chain carbon usage? The goal to minimise carbon emissions is a noble one :) perhaps the team may find it useful to broaden the scope to (1) first research the breakdown of carbon emissions (e.g. x% due to meat; y% due to electricity and air conditioning usage; z% due to plastic waste, etc); and (2) suggest the most impactful way to reduce carbon footprint (e.g. if we set aircon to 25 degrees celcius, would it reduce carbon footprint by the same amount as eating KFC?) All the best in your project!! :)

I wasn’t allowed to eat beef for religious beliefs but now that I have been given a choice , I still chose not to eat it as I was truly aware of the very high carbon emissions caused by cow rearing. It’s been on my Educational curriculum and it kinda hit me when I was doing alot of Cade studies. So you guys could definitely target students who are actually at a stage where they are ready to make eco-friendly choices. But reasons given to them should be very convincing as well.
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
recommend alternatives - habits are not changed, they are replaced
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
The intent to reduce carbon footprint is great! Empowerment of users to track their habits definitely helps to complement their progress towards the greater cause. It would also be great to tackle meat consumption from a personal health perspective to motivate users to consume less meat.

I hope this is a good idea. If this.platform allows the consumers to understand their meat consumption and give a detailed report or would be helpful to people like me who would like to reduce the meat consumption. Also you can provide a weekly or monthly report with some points or rewards for reducing the consumption of meat. This will definitely give a good indication of their effort in meat consumption not just by making people aware of the environmental benefits. The rewards will make people proud about themselves in contributing to environment. The platform users can compete with their friends in collecting rewards and together small contributions can make a bigger impact on our mother nature. All the best for your idea.

Perhaps team could consider an app instead of a Telegram chat bot as Telegram may not be as widely used.
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
Usually people are motivated by peer support. Can consider adding an element of that into the habit tracker/website.
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
Try to add more visuals, interactive videos in the information shared. Why not even a community group chat where everyone is keeping each other on check if they are following closely to their habits? They can also share different foods they are consuming instead so to inspire others to opt for alternatives instead. - Singi Das, singi.das.7@gmail.com

not sure how effective a telegram habit tracker will actually be as it\'s easy to ignore/mute. might just be a tool that further helps people who are already consciously making this effort, rather than encouraging those new to reducing meat consumption to come on board.
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
In addition to the telegram group, perhaps suggest impossible meat options in Singapore that users can try. Reducing meat is a good initiative, but unless it is replaced with something else, people often find it hard to get away from meat. Perhaps a testimonial on impossible meat or have a food review on possible impossible options.
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
People often just ignores the telegram notifcations. Perhaps try another platform?
In response to "How Can We Improve?"
The telegram project sounds like an interesting idea! The interface seems pretty dull, perhaps an app may be a better idea?
