Problem Statement

When residents relocate, they are most open to behavioral and mindset changes. If given the right nudges, residents can achieve a lifestyle in which walking, cycling and riding public transport is commonplace.

How can we leverage the “fresh-start” effect and encourage new homeowners to build lasting eco-friendly lifestyle habits?

Project Description

#MoveSG aims to encourage Singaporeans, starting from new homeowners, to move towards sustainable forms of commute.

The team will develop a digital platform, Ah Boi, where new residents can discover hidden gems and interesting places in their new neighbourhood which cannot be found on generic map apps. By promoting heartland locations which can be easily reached via walking, cycling or public transport, users of the platform will develop more sustainable commuting habits.

The places to explore in the areas that we stay helps residents familiarise themselves with their environment and also explore places of interest with fun and adventure in mind. Can be an event with healthy 365 to achieve daily walking goals.

Great initiative and seems easy to adopt without needing to install chatbot. WOuld definitely be useful to new homeowners especially since this demographic is likely to look for easy and good ways to commute and surrounding amenities to visit. Also, this demographic seems the most open to adopting this habit since they are already in a phase of change and have certain expectations that come with that. The info on the chatbot would also be useful for existing residents if they are looking for it. Good to see how to change their habits as well and what are best ways to incentivise users to keep to using the chatbot. Additionally, would be good to see how users can also contribute to this platform with real-time info. Which may be valuable (example roads to avoid cause there\'s increase in traffic/road block, reno work, etc).

I find that bicycle sharing is extremely helpful. Sometimes when I dont feel like taking the bus, I prefer riding the bicycle. Hence, if it is provided abundantly, that would be great. However, there are always those who misuse these things. We should implement monitoring on these things and stricter rule but easy to follow.

i think there are a multitude of factors affecting people\'s willingness to move. some may be individual while others are more macro. consider what are the underlying reasons hampering people from being more active. perhaps look into how your solution can go hand in hand with existing policies as well

I think it would be great if there is an app that would promote your cause and give tasks with clear instructions and easy to ease in, with a form of reward upon completion. For example: Take a walk through the popular running route in for . (Include some interesting things to observe on the way).

It will be good that the application provides a questionnaire of typical areas to commute easily as per request. Also, they can make a schedule to do cycling or walking every week. It will be very helpful if they can put an alarm, connect with Google Agenda to support their new lifestyle, or short memo as a reminder!

The problem statement is a long-term goal and one that has to be sustained which is parallel to the project description that is short-term and has less potential to be sustained. Love the no-installation chatbot idea but the concept of exploration an area might be short-lived as after exploring and finding out everything around me, i will lose the incentive/motivation to go out exploring more.

Interesting project, would it be useful to consider the ideal outcome or specific objective -e.g. is the project more to (1) encourage exploration of community amenities or (2) encourage greater use of walking / cycling / public transport over personal vehicle? For (1), it might be useful to partner HPB, and also crowd source ideas for community gems/hideouts, and publicise these on your platform. For (2), it may be harder to angle the project to replace existing preference of transport e.g. one may walk 1km to purchase grocery from nearby market, but the same person may not walk 1km to the next bus stop if he is in business attire on his way to work. If you are trying to see if residents would want to find hidden spots within their residential area, you can just build a telegram group for residents in a particular area and get them to share hidden spots. If they are interested, you should see alot communicating and sharing through the app.

The chatbot that I have come across from government agencies and private sectors are not that “intelligent”. They send me going in circles. Not only does the chatbot ends up not providing any answer that I don’t already know but worse with response that does not answer my query. Perhaps an interactive app on top of chatbot with images/videos of the undiscovered hidden gems and locations to help us better decide if user will want to find out more about these venues.

this project May be a good idea overseas more so than in Singapore. In singapore, for myself, I’ve never moved house and I assume most people don’t frequently move house. While the idea of a exploration adventure might be fresh, singapore has quite the same things no matter where you stay. Parks, trains, buses etc. these things are quite obvious already and could probably be easily searched online if the people were interested. That being said, the incentives part of this can probably encourage people to start doing the healthy habits. I find myself sticking to a habit when there are monetary incentives. In summary, the exploration adventure with monetary incentives is still a good idea to implement

I think this is a very interesting idea! Chatbots are definitely useful. How about also having a map customed to persons gpa location (much like google maps) but there are pins all around in different colours or symbols maybe, so let’s say the user wants to visit a new kopitiam, the app/website would show them the cycling/walking route to all eateries nearby (can also use to promote local businesses). Usually people who are new in the neighbourhood would want to know where the parks are so they can unwind so maybe the location pins can locate those as well! :) - Singi Das, singi.das.7@gmail.com

While an interesting idea as new residents are encouraged to explore their neighbourhood, its reach is likely limited. I wouldn\'t mind walking around my neighbourhood to explore, but that wouldn\'t translate to me adopting sustainable habits in my day to day.

Instead of a chatbot, how about an app? Where I can keep track of past searches and save favourites. When you roll out incentives and rewards programme, will also be easy to access and see the rewards catalogue. One good idea is to engage with sgbikes, Anywheel to provide free passes if we clock a certain step count for example. Chatbot can also be integrated into smart home lifestyle like setting reminders for homeowners to bring their tote bags out etc, tumblers and metal straws.
