Problem Statement

Currently, existing tech bootcamps are helping students to gain relevant and in-demand technology skills.

However, these educational platforms often require high upfront costs. How can we make these platforms reachable to more people, especially the underprivileged students?

Project Description

huCap aims to partner with top tech bootcamps and enable them to offer income share agreements, a form of education financing, with their students.

When students choose huCap as their financing option, boot camp fees would be first covered by huCap and students can pay back a monthly fee once they graduate and find their first job.

Unclear if this means financially or time and resources -- if I were taking a course, I would look out for high quality courses with established trainers

Whether the camp is really useful and i will look out for honest feedbacks from other users or even try the camp for myself to see if it is effective. I would not want to invest in something that people does not really find beneficial.

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

Team may wish to consider how the proposed \"financing option\" of no upfront fees but monthly fees later on can be reconciled with existing Government funding options that seek to make these programs free. If this is just a financing vehicle like Atome etc., it does not reduce the debt burden on potential students and there is no assurance that the tech bootcamps would in fact lead to improved career prospects.

Just curious if you are getting any profit from this? and how long (specifically) are graduates given before they have to make the first payment?

Have trial lessons for people to try and see if it is beneficial for them before deciding if we should take up the camp or invest in.

Its a very heartwarming initiative however it feels like a very long term commitment, where the person has to stay with you guys till he/she finds a job and they might scare them in a sense so maybe you guy could give them another option that is a little short termed. Whatever they are comfortable with, they can then choose that.

Great idea with financing students. Suggestion would be to narrow down students you fund to final year students or students who will be able to find internship soon to pay off their ‘loan’. Just thinking in terms of cash flow for you guys. Otherwise, finding a way from businesses to be the ones paying you a fee (return of your paid amount for the students PLUS an introducer fee) could be a cool thing for your business model.

Your project is a good idea. One thing to consider, this is a similar concept to a scholarship. While it\'s mainly to benefit the recipient, it\'s also good to consider how will it benefit the donor, just like how scholarships work. Not necessary to be monetary rewards. Hope this helps and all the best!

In response to "How Can We Improve?"

\"The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Ecole 42 in Paris, France signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to collaborate on setting-up a tuition-fee free Continuing Education and Training (CET) programme focused on programming in Singapore. \" There is an existing concept in Singapore and I understand there are also government subsidies to greatly reduce the upfront costs. Maybe one thing that the team can consider is to be a landscape analysis of possible pathways by govt and other companies and why your pathway is preferred for your user. In Indonesia, there is a startup that did well with a similar concept - https://danacita.co.id/company/about-us/ could be helpful to read up about it or even speak to someone from their team. However, I believe the economics and business context in Indonesia differs greatly from that in Singapore. Maybe one thing that the team can consider is to do more research if such a model would have demand in Singapore. for both investors and users. also, to start off such a model, you would need a significant pool of funds and it takes quite some time for the returns and funds to be \"recycled\" back into the pool. on thing for the team to consider is that your company might not be profitable for the first few years. also, if the default rate is high, your company might also face additional financial difficulties.

I think for a start, huCap should focus on just 1-2 top tech bootcamps and focus on these bootcamps offerings instead of spreading too wide and diversifying the bootcamps. Concentration would be key when starting out. Also, it would be good to focus on certain schools for a start or a particular demographic of students when starting out instead of spreading your wings too wide and not being able to cope with demand with limited supply of bootcamps. Also, I feel that you guys would need a lot of funds and capital to deal with the influx of demand to pay for students bootcamps upfront first and it is paramount to think about the cashflow issues as not all students will be able to pay back in future and be liable so it is important to think about \"default\" on their debt as well as it could be years before they even start working and not all students/parents are interested and open to the idea of taking on future debt as well.
