HEFTI
Wastes That’ll Never Be Wasted Again

Did you know that even if you finish your food, you might still be generating waste? These come in the form of by-products that goes into the process of producing the food itself.

Thus to prevent wastage, what if we could turn these wastes into something we could consume again? That is precisely what team HEFTI intends to do through the Youth Action Challenge. Catch our past videos to discover their journey and experiences!

I definitely learnt so much from the video! I did't know that even though we finish our food, we are still indirectly wasting food and negatively impacting the environment. This is such a good stepping stone to using these by-products and transforming them into a wide range of functional food products! It would be very interesting to see how the general public and consumers will respond to this range of products!

What an innovative way to turn a by-product from a waste to a potential ingredient! A good start from using soy products since Asia countries consume a lot of it. Would hope to see how HEFTI can turn other food wastes, such as discarded fruits/ vegetables that are bruised/distorted into a new, innovative and delicious products. Also, eager to see how HEFTI can make full use of vegetables and fruit peels (e.g. Obtained from Orange juice vending machines/ fruit juice stores) or even corn cob that are by-products of food service/ food manufacturing. Im sure with the innovation, they can help reduce food waste, create new products and even generate new revenues from food companies!

This is a great idea! Reducing waste and producing nutritious food products at the same time! :-) Some food for thought, (1) How much will it cost to purchase the relevant equipment to process these by-products, (2) Just thinking from a company's point of view, how does the cost of turning these by-products into food compare with the cost of throwing these by-products out? As if it was cheaper to throw out these by-products, what would be the motivations of companies to convert these by-products into food? (3) Could perhaps consider partnering with manufacturing companies to scale this up

Great idea on converting food waste to become useful products - from soy pulp to soy pulp flour. There are lots of solutions on converting soy pulp to useful products. If this soy pulp flour is more nutritious and tastier than other flour, this would be a game-changer.

Love this idea, if it really is possible to get the cost of soy flour to the price of normal flour, this is already a commercially viable idea. Then all you have left is patenting this new method and getting into the supply chains. Many recipies already allow for normal flour to be substituted with soy flour, so a more nutritious option would definitely be an easy decision for consumers, if its priced similarly.

Converting something of low value to something more valuable is definitely great, even more great when they food. Hoping to try them out! Other than snacks is it possible to come up with food that are more commonly consumed like bread since it's a flour?
